What are decimal fractions
Decimals are fractions where denominators are 10,100,1000,10000 etc.
Examples: 7/10, 9/100, 32/1000
The decimal represented by a figure below
Decimal with 10 as denominator
1/10 is also denoted as 0.1 and read as point one.
2/10 is also denoted as 0.2 and read as point two.
5/10 is also denoted as 0.2 and read as point five.
9/10 is also denoted as 0.9 and read as point nine.
Decimal with 100 as denominator
Similarly for decimals with 100 as the denominator are represented as below..
1/100 is denoted as 0.01 and read as point zero one.
2/100 is denoted as 0.02 and read as point zero two.
5/100 is denoted as 0.05 and read as point zero five.
9/100 is denoted as 0.09 and read as point zero nine.
Decimal places
Any decimal fraction has two parts separated by decimal (.) point. The number towards the left of decimal point is whole number and on right part is called decimal.
Examples-
45.97: 45 is whole number here and 97 is decimal part
